Violence in Motion is a stage and film combat training company for the professional actor. Whether you’re a fresh theatre school grad, a professional stunt performer, or anywhere in between— our classes are for you.
Types of Classes
Unarmed
Back to basics— punches, kicks, slaps, falls, grabs, chokes… Learn to be safe no matter what the script calls for.
Fighting for Film
Our most popular class! Learn to adapt fight choreography for the variety of camera angles needed on set.
Rapier
Also called single sword, this commonly European weapon is the most seen used by theatre and opera companies as well as schools.
Rapier and Dagger
Two weapon fighting! This classic fighting technique adds skill and thrills an audience. Most often used in period pieces.
Small Sword
Smaller than a rapier, this weapon demands finesse and detail. Where a rapier slashes and loops— this weapon uses fine tip work to show off the duelist’ skill.
Broadsword
In Europe, before various types of swords had names— they were called “swords”. Now we often call the swords used by medieval knights and vikings, a “Broadsword”. These larger weapons are no joke— which is probably why they are so much fun to learn.
Quarter Staff
Staff work is the foundation of many weapons, including spear. European Quarter Staff is a great tool to learn to use your full body, and keep a theatre company on budget.
Master Classes
We all want to learn from the best! Several times a year we will bring in experts to delve into their specialties. Previous guest instructors have included: John Stead, James Binkley and Steve Wilsher.
